Frequently Asked Questions
General
A: You bet! This type of service is common in larger cities. It's existed in Grand Rapids for years, but only in limited capacity. We're changing that.
A: You just need to be where your laundry is at or leave it somewhere we can get it if plans change. For the dropoff, we'd love to see your smiling face after you skip laundry day, but we can leave it somewhere safe if that's your preference.
A: The same way you would if you were home. It's all online and easily accessed through our website. You'll receive a link to a payable invoice via email as soon as your laundry gets processed.
A: Under the Rapid Laundry brand, we're just starting. The owner, Matt, has been in the dry/wet cleaning and laundry industry for 10+ years.
A: No. We do not process 'dry clean only' items.
A: Unfortunately, no. We don't have a retail store for you to come to.
A: No, we close on weekends. Please keep that in mind when scheduling toward the end of the week as no laundry is processed Saturday and Sunday.
Pickup
A: We are based in Eastown and service out to 4 miles in every direction. This forms a large circle from 3 Mile Rd down to 32nd St. and from John Ball Zoo to Forest Hill Ave. Click here to see the full service area in a new tab or window.
A: No, only the area within 4 miles of Eastown.
A: Scheduling is handled with 15 minute time blocks. We make every effort to arrive within and as close to the start of the time block as possible. Weather, traffic, and other things that are out of our control may slow us down. Rest assured that we're moving rapidly in your direction.
A: No. In fact, we prefer you don't. We have transport bags for this purpose.
A: You may provide any of your favorite laundry supplies. We will use them and return them to you.
The Process
A: It depends on what is being washed and how it is being washed. It also depends on your preferences. If you want something done a certain way, all you have to do is ask! With that said, we generally follow what the care labels say to do. Lights and darks are separated at a minimum and delicates are kept separate throughout both the wash and dry cycle. Drying ranges from "dry flat" to the normal "heated tumble."
A: Probably not. If you want a specific prespot spray, detergent, bleach, softener, etc used, you'll have to supply it. We use biodegradable, dye-free, and fragrance-free products because we're not trying to wash the fish downstream and we believe clean laundry should smell like clean laundry.
A: No, sorry.
A: We simply don't mix your laundry with any other laundry. Each order is kept packaged separately until it is ready for processing. Each laundry gets sorted by itself and then loaded into empty machines for the wash and dry cycles. Every last garment is removed from the machines and the drums are spun to make sure nothing is still hiding inside. The laundry is then folded and packaged in a dedicated area to keep your laundry together. It stays that way until it's ready for delivery.
Payment
A: No to all of the above. Our drivers do not carry cash to make change. We do not accept personal checks. We currently don't accept bitcoin and have no short-term plans to do so. We're keeping an eye on it though.
Our current system is geared toward card payments only.
Delivery
A: Yes, just let us know. It's tricky though: If we've already started processing your order, we can store the completed laundry for a later delivery, but the current price will remain. If we haven't started processing your laundry, there are no issues; the service level and price will simply be adjusted accordingly.
A: Sure! Just let us know your arrangements well before the scheduled delivery time.
A: Not a problem. We can store your cleaned laundry for up to 2 weeks.
